IS THE HOLY SPIRIT GOD?

The Spirit of God comes in many forms, the breath of life, the Word of God, and the Angels. There is a misconception with regard to the Holy Spirit, Comforter, and Spirit of Truth. Some Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead, which is in error.

The Spirit of Truth is Gabriel, the Angel of the Lord’s presence; Luke 1: 11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him…. 19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

Wherever the name of the messenger is given it is Gabriel. God has an innumerable amount of Angels, all that did not follow Satan, are Holy Spirits. Hebrews 1: 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Breath of Life:

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Job 27:3 All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

Job 33:3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly. 4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Job 34:14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; 15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

Psalm 104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Ecc 3:18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. 19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. 20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Word of God:

Psalms 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Eph. 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being the blindness of their heart:

:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

1 Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Angels:

Genesis 16:7
7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

:9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. 10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. 11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

Genesis 24:40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:

Exodus 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed

Exodus 23:23 For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

Exodus 33:2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
Psalm 104:30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

These are just a few verses, there are many more. I have read Genesis through Revelation and I have read of the Father's throne and the Lamb's throne but have never seen in scripture where "God" the Holy Spirit's throne is, because He is not God, but a ministering spirit.

Read it for yourself, show me.

Peace to All

Read Romans 8:9-11,16 Pay attention to the text in a few verses the Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ are referenced and used as metonyms. In other words the Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of God are interchagable within context here. Then this same Spirit is the same Spirit that is referred to be within you. It is also refered to the same Spirit that raised up Christ and the same Spirit that quickens our mortal bodies. God Bless

Daniel,

The scriptures that you say are interchangable are not. What Paul is saying is that the Word of God is Spirit. Let's take a look at what Paul is talking about. Turn to John 6:51-63, Jesus is telling His disciples that the flesh profits nothing. His Words are Spirit and they are Life. Now turn to John 1:12-13, we see that He gave power to become the sons of God born not of the flesh nor the will of man, but of God. So you see that the spirit that dwells in us is His Word, which is Spirit and is Holy. The spirit that Paul is talking about in Romans 8:16 is the spirit of wisdom (His Word) that you have knowledge of the HOLY, Ephesians 1:17.

There is another spirit that dwells in you. The spirit that is in you nostrils, Gen 2:7, the spirit of God, Job 27:3, which is the breath of the Almighty, Job 33:4.

So, when you talk about the spirit which spirit are you talking about,
for even your thoughts are spirit and they are in you, and not necessarily Holy, Gen 6:5.

There is much more that we candiscuss about the Spirit of God in its many forms.

Peace,
Tyrone

how can the holy spirit be the truth and not be God?

The Spirit of God comes in many forms, the breath of life, the Word of God, and the Angels (that left not their first estate--Holy. These Spirits have the exact same characteristics as the Lord that created them.

They speak in the first person when they are sent as messengers.

If you read the entire post before commenting you will find the answers to your questions.

Greetings,

You are right. I thought I was the only one who saw that. It is nowhere the bible states that the Holy Spirit is a God. He is an Holy angel. I tried to tell that to this person but he thinks I'm no christian because of what I said. I didn't know it is Gabriel. I never thought of that. Thanks. God Bless

Thank you for visiting our site. Please come again and often. I know exactly what you are talking about in regard to being accused of being an anti-Christ.

Check out this post written by Bro Ty http://kingskid3.blogspot.com/2008/12/is-holy-spirit-god_10.html, after I was attacked by someone here in blogsphere that I considered a "friend".

I was vilified and called one of the Devils minions, for speaking the truth.

Peace to you

John 4:24 says that "God is Spirit". And I believe we can all agree that God is Holy. That makes Him a Holy Spirit.
Angels are ministering spirits (Heb 1:14) of God and it is also stated that they are Holy. They definitely qualify as holy spirits.
But notice that when Jesus said that He will send "the Helper, The Spirit of Truth (who proceeds from the Father)", He really did not say "a spirit of truth" (or one of the spirit of truth), which would make a lot of difference. The Spirit of truth is more of a specific Spirit sent to all mankind who believes in Jesus' salvation (etc), so that can't be an angel of God, coz angels are not quite omnipresent.

In Job 27:3 "the spirit of God is in my nostrils", really means that he is living in God's ways and guidance or could also mean the spirit given to man by God, as in Rom 8:16 "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God", where it shows that our Spirit is different from God's. We can have a spirit of our own and then God can give us the guiding Spirit, as an additional thing. But the guiding/Holy Spirit, does not give life in its physical sense.

In Job 34:14, we just have to clarify which "His" is God's and which "his" is man's, as in "If He set His heart upon man, if He gather unto Himself his (man's) spirit and his (man's) breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust."

Anonymous,

I agree that God is a Spirit and that the Holy Angels that kept their first estate are Holy. However, I do not understand what you are saying about the Spirit of Truth not being an Angel, or a specific Spirit, because He is .

Please read our post Is the Holy Spirit God? Part 1; Part 2; and Part 3, written in 2008.

As for your statement regarding, "...the spirit of God is in my nostrils..", Job 27:3. This is referring to the "breath of life" which He breathed into Adam and "..he became a living soul"; Genesis 2:7, Job 33:4; Isaiah 2:22.

So, you see, the spirit that is in your nostrils is the "breath of life". If that spirit leaves you, you will die and return to the dust; Psalms 104:29.

You have confused the Spirit that Paul is talking about in Romans 8:16, with the spirit that Job was talking about in Job 27:3. Jobs speaks about the breath that is in our nostrils; the spirit that Paul is speaking of is the Word that abides in us; Romans 8:9, 14, 16. Because the Lord's words are Spirit and they are Life; John 6:63, so when you read and study His Word, then you have become full of the Spirit of God and have received Him you will gain the knowledge to become the sons of God; John 1:12.

When you use the word "spirit" you have to know which spirit the Lord is speaking of.

Tyrone
